My name is Amayelle and I am the creator of Myelle Cosmetics. I was born in Miami Beach but my mom is from Dakar, Senegal where we now live. I’ve travelled a lot with my mom since I was a baby. I have been working on Myelle since I was 9. I am now 12 years old.

My mom is an entrepreneur. I’ve learned what an entrepreneur does by watching and listening and now I’m an entrepreneur too. Entrepreneurs make their own brands—my mom actually launched the first music recognition application in the United States which is now known as Shazam! She’s amazing. I’ve also learned that it’s very stressful to be an entrepreneur. But even though I’ve seen that it’s stressful, I still want to do it. Never give up!

I love all types of beauty products but I also like to be careful with what I use on my skin. I like using simple products, that smell good with fun packaging that make me feel good about myself. When I saw a website where you could customize your own hair products, I thought it was cool. So I thought maybe I should make my own beauty brand where people can express themselves. I realized I could make products for people of all ages.

I started by making a team. I started to learn more about how you make brands, websites, and products. We did some testing to figure out how to make products. We learned which products are easiest to start with, which are harder to deliver or riskier to deliver like nail polish, how to ship products, etc. Then we made the name, the theme, the logo, and the tagline. I wouldn’t have been able to do this on my own, but if I’m taught something, I’m able to learn more from that.

At Myelle, we believe that everything you choose, is not a mistake. You’re showing your real self—who you are and what you like.
